Shea Butter - A Tree Nut with Potential Allergic Reactions

Are you aware that shea butter comes from a nut tree in West Africa?   For those of you that have peanut allergies, shea butter has a close relationship or sensitivity akin to peanut butter.  Most often people are not aware of this little know fact.  As a policy analyst w/the Foreign Agricultural Service I have read information bearing the similarities of the two tree nuts.

So, the next time you find yourself with an allergic reaction to a product or better yet check the labels before use, ascertain whether shea butter is one of its ingredients.  Shea butter is found in all kinds of hair and body products.  I recently found out that shea oil is used in the Hershey's Cookies and Cream candy bar.  Unfortunately, there are no warnings on labels for shea butter (a nut) but I believe there should be a warning!

Peace and blessings,

Deatrice
